In Christmas, a denial

My Christmas present to the world: Kurt Cobain’s great anthem revitalised by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. Listen to the lyrics, and imagine them being sung by Monckton. I am about to disappear into the kitchen to dismember a turkey, prior to its reassembly for tomorrow’s lunch. Bryan promises some posts over the holiday period, and I will contribute the odd (possibly very odd) item from time to time, but do not expect diligence in a period of indolence. However, I went to see the UOGB in Christchurch at the beginning of the month and their performance was so — moving — that I just had to give it another airing.]

  8. I too would like to wish all those who contribute to this forum a Merry Christmas, both warmists and denialists alike. As a keen chess player having an opponent in the discussions makes the game more interesting. I couldn’t ever imagine watching a chess game involving only one player. That said, the game would be more interesting still if the denialists kept to the rules. A chess game where one player constantly gets caught out making illegal moves (by misrepesenting the science) also doesn’t make for an interesting game.

    With regard subjective temperature trends, there has certainly alot of heat being generated in this forum. I would just add that a little bit of a temperature rise in some regions is just like having a little bit of AIDS. The question is whether or not AGW will have a happy ending. If someone is infected with HIV, we know what the limited outcomes are from the experience of others that have been infected. Similarly evidence from the earth’s distance past offers sufficient precedent to suggest that the path we are trekking may not be all roses. Some of us have now learnt, however, that the spectre of a mass extinction is not sufficient cause for alarm to budge the stalwart opinions of denialists.

    I suggest that climate scientists should next year focus on developing economic models over the next 10-20 years, and if they could somehow demonstrate unequivocally that climate change will lead to a minimum 5% drop in net GDP, it might just be enough to rattle a few nerves in the denialist camp in order that they start thinking about reducing emissions and begin investing in clean renewable energy.

    I encourage everyone to save Santa’s home and cut GHG emissions.
