I was astounded to hear on the National Radio today, an interview with a couple of Intelligence specialists who noted that a large majority of Intelligence in UK and USA today is undertaken by private companies. Up to 70% of a huge multi-billion dollar budget for security intelligence is to private providers. The scary thing is that these providers are part of the programme that leads the West into wars in Iraq, Afganistan, and tensions in Iran, and Pakistan. And its not that far removed from the horn of Africa and the Sahel. All areas with increasing societal pressures from drought, and a failing harvest.
Unfortunately these people are one step removed from the responsibility of "public service" (a rapidly disappearing concept unfortunately). They fly the drogues over Pakistan from the safety of the USA and direct air strikes on villages, creating even more terrorists. If this is the future, we can expect more strife resulting from impending droughts rather than less.
